The U.S. State of New York is a wonderful place to visit. It offers many tourism activities, amusements and adventures for tourists sufficient enough to keep them amused and entertained during the visit. There are numerous tourist destinations and wonderful places to unwind and have fun. However, the most important of them are the wonderful lakes located all around the upstate region of New York.
Famous among these are the splendidly beautiful and magnificent glacier-carved ice-blue Finger Lakes. Located in the central part of New York State, Finger Lakes are actually a collection of 11 lakes that have formed naturally. Finger Lakes region is a 9000-square mile marvel of the nature that is surrounded by canyons with more than 1000 waterfalls, rolling hills, hundreds of vineyards, dozens of white-water streams, rivers, more than 25 state parks, a National Forest, and a world-famous Wildlife Refuge.
Popular attractions include Letchworth State Park, Taughannock Falls State Park, Watkins Glen State Park, Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge, Cayuga Nature Center, Tanglewood Nature Center, and Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnet Park, Ithaca Falls, Robert Treman State Park and Green Lakes State Park. Visitors can enjoy the beauty of nature by walking along the 552-mile long Finger Lakes Trail Network that connects Catskill Mountains with the Allegheny Mountains. Major tourist activities in Finger Lakes region include balloon ride, glider rides, skydiving, hiking, boat cruises, canoeing, kayaking, scuba diving and skiing. Also available in this region are metropolitan areas such as Rochester, Syracuse, Ithaca and Corning that are known for their amusement parks, museums, theaters, symphony orchestras and restaurants.
Located on the northern side of Finger Lakes region is the magnificent Lake Ontario. Another interesting fishing and vacation spots in New York State lake is the Black Lake, which is located north of Syracuse. Located on the southeast end of Syracuse are Round lake and Green Lake. Both these are glacial kettle remnants of an ancient, gigantic waterfall and are known for their characteristic aqua-marine color.
Many of the lakes in Upstate New York are formed due to glacial and fluvial processes. All these are excellent tourist destinations and have ample restaurants and resorts available in the vicinity providing good dining and accommodation.
